Fitting Room Finds: GAP.

I am aware of the lack of EOTD posts on the blog lately. Other than being absolutely exhausted from work and the accompanying commute, I've been having trouble trying to put together more creative outfits probably due to the time of year--February, when winter has started to get old, but also, because I'm getting bored. I've realized over the past few weeks that it's time to inject my wardrobe with more non-basic, versatile pieces as I'm starting to get disinterested with what I currently have. I've spent the last year or so buying basics, but I think it's time to branch out a bit more as I look in my closet every morning and frown at all the suit trousers and button-downs and lack of much else. Don't get me wrong, I love trousers and button-downs, but at some point, the closet pleads for a little bit more.

I'm still somewhat uninspired by the early-spring offerings stores have out now, but I've been seeing quite a few GAP emails in my inbox lately that have intrigued me, particularly their new Skinny Mini Skimmer Khakis:

GAP bottoms can be really hit or miss, particularly if you are petite, so I was dying to step into the store and see how great (or not so great) these pants really were. I ended up taking three different styles of bottoms with me into the fitting room.

First I tried the 1969 Printed Always Skinny Skimmer jeans. I've been looking for a great pair of camo-printed denim for a while now, trying several pairs from Zara and other various brands, but I have yet to find a good-fitting pair. In 00R, these had an OK fit:

The waist fit, the rear wasn't too bad, but I do with they were a little slimmer at the ankle. The regular has an inseam of 28" which is perfect for me, but if you have a shorter inseam, you will probably do better with the petite inseam which is 26". Overall, not bad, but not great either. The regular price is $69.95US.

The second pair of bottoms I tried were the Slim Cropped Print Pants in Diamond Geo. I really liked the print which is interesting without being too cutesy:

    Being worn in 00R:

In 00P, they were too large all over, however, I could see these fitting much better in petite sizing, but they would probably be too short for my 31" inch inseam. The inseam on these 00R, is 27" and 25" on the Petite version. The regular price is $49.50US. If you wear petite clothing and you are about my size but with a shorter inseam, I would definitely trying the petite version and see how these work out for you. They come in three prints:

Finally, I tried the Skinny Mini Skimmer Khakis. I was expecting them to have a slight boyfriend fit--a bit slouchy, but these are cut small and close to the body. Me in 00R (sorry, blurry first photo):

I thought they were just OK with the hem unrolled, but as soon as I rolled them up, I thought, "CUTE!". Great fit for lean legs good fit well around my waist (they have a pretty low rise), and the back fit pretty well. They come in several colors, dark grey being available online only:

I did not see the red in-store, but the blue isn't as saturated as the website indicates and I was a bit unimpressed when I saw it in real life. The neon yellow is also not very saturated and indeed neon. The khaki is also a bit darker than the website shows (and as you can see in the photos). The regular priced for these are $49.50. If you are looking for a casual pant for warmer months, I think these are great. The inseam on the 00R is 28" and the petite, 25". If you would like something a bit slouchier, definitely go up one size.

Anyone have and great GAP finds lately?

Agreed that Gap is so hit or miss. Picked up the slim fit cropped pants in red and pink and loved them so I thought I would get them in basic black. Didn't try them on and took the tags off...LOL! they were MUCH tighter fit and longer! Not cropped at all! But I've been wearing them under boots for now - they are almost like leggings. I'll figure out what to do about the bottoms when boot season is over :P

I have spent years searching for a flattering pair of khakis. Most pairs are just too wide, making me look dumpy. After reading some reviews that said Gap's skinny minis were slim fitting, I figured I ought to give them a shot. I also brought a pair of the broken-in straight khakis, both in my usual size (0), into the fitting room. The broken-in straights were huge, but the skinny minis were a great fit, slim, but not clingy. I agree that they looked best rolled up, which is why I stuck with the regular length rather than order the petites online. I bought them in khaki, but am thinking of ordering them in red (they didn't have that color in either of my local Gap stores)
